The Lamb and the 144,000 on Mount Zion

1 Then I looked, and behold, ^athe Lamb was standing on ^bMount Zion, and with Him ^cone hundred and forty-four thousand, having ^dHis name and the ^ename of His Father written ^fon their foreheads. 2 And I heard a voice from heaven, like ^gthe sound of many waters and like the ^hsound of loud thunder, and the voice which I heard was like the sound of ⁱharpists playing on their harps. 3 And they ^{▼▼ Two early mss read sing something like a new song} sang ^ka new song before the throne and before the ^lfour living creatures and the ^melders; and ⁿno one could learn the song except the ^oone hundred and forty-four thousand who had been ^ppurchased from the earth. 4 ^qThese are the ones who have not been defiled with women, for they ^{▼▼ Lit are chaste men}have kept themselves chaste. These are the ones who ^sfollow the Lamb wherever He goes. These have been ^tpurchased from among men ^uas first fruits to God and to the Lamb. 5 And ^vno lie was found in their mouth; they are ^wblameless.

Vision of the Angel with the Gospel

6 And I saw another angel flying in ^xmidheaven, having ^yan eternal gospel to preach to ^zthose who ^{▼▼ Lit sit}live on the earth, and to ^abevery nation and tribe and tongue and people; 7 and he said with a loud voice, ^ac“Fear God, and ^adgive Him glory, because the hour of His judgment has come; worship Him who ^aemade the heaven and the earth and sea and ^afsprings of waters.”

8 And another angel, a second one, followed, saying, ^{▼▼ Lit Babylon...fell, fell, she who
,} ^ah“Fallen, fallen is ^aiBabylon the great, she who has ^ajmade all the nations drink of the ^akwine of the ^{▼▼ Or wrath}passion of her immorality.”

Doom for Worshipers of the Beast

9 Then another angel, a third one, followed them, saying with a loud voice, “If anyone ^amworships the beast and his ^animage, and receives a ^aomark on his forehead or on his hand, 10 he also will drink of the ^apwine of the wrath of God, which is mixed ^{▼▼ Lit unmixed; in ancient times wine was usually diluted with water}in full strength ^arin the cup of His anger; and he will be tormented with ^asfire and ^{▼▼ I.e. burning sulphur}brimstone in the presence of the ^auholy angels and in the presence of the Lamb. 11 “And the ^avsmoke of their torment goes up forever and ever; ^awthey have no rest day and night, those who ^axworship the beast and his ^ayimage, and ^{▼▼ Lit if anyone}whoever receives the ^bamark of his name.” 12 Here is ^bbthe ^{▼▼ Or steadfastness}perseverance of the ^{▼▼ Or holy ones}saints who ^bekeep the commandments of God and ^{▼▼ Lit the faith of

13 And I heard a voice from heaven, saying, “Write, ‘ ^bhBlessed are the dead who ^bidie in the Lord from now on!’” “Yes,” ^bjsays the Spirit, “so that they may ^bkrest from their labors, for their ^bldeeds follow with them.”

The Reapers

14 Then I looked, and behold, a ^bmwhite cloud, and sitting on the cloud was one ^bnlike ^{▼▼ Or the Son of Man}a son of man, having a golden ^bpcrown on His head and a sharp sickle in His hand. 15 And another angel ^bqcame out of the ^{▼▼ Or sanctuary}temple, crying out with a loud voice to Him who sat on the cloud, ^{▼▼ Lit Send forth
,} ^bt“Put in your sickle and reap, for the hour to reap has come, because the ^buharvest of the earth ^{▼▼ Lit has become dry}is ripe.” 16 Then He who sat on the cloud ^{▼▼ Lit cast}swung His sickle over the earth, and the earth was reaped.

17 And another angel ^bxcame out of the ^{▼▼ Or sanctuary}temple which is in heaven, and he also had a sharp sickle. 18 Then another angel, ^bzthe one who has power over fire, came out from ^cathe altar; and he called with a loud voice to him who had the sharp sickle, saying, ^{▼▼ Lit Send forth
,} ^cc“Put in your sharp sickle and gather the clusters ^{▼▼ Lit of}from the vine of the earth, ^cebecause her grapes are ripe.” 19 So the angel ^{▼▼ Lit cast}swung his sickle to the earth and gathered the clusters from the vine of the earth, and threw them into ^cgthe great wine press of the wrath of God. 20 And ^chthe wine press was trodden ^cioutside the city, and ^cjblood came out from the wine press, up to the horses’ bridles, ^{▼▼ Lit from}for a distance of ^{▼▼ Lit sixteen hundred stadia; a stadion was approx 600 ft}two hundred miles.
